Be the sacrifice, as opposed to making one. That sums up today’s devotion, and the story that went along with it was impacting. There are things: dreams, hopes, desires; that sometimes God asks us to give up. When we are obedient, the end result will always be better, but not necessarily what we want.
Am I willing to sacrifice my wants, and to put God’s first? I think sometimes, in certain areas. But generally, I want my hopes and dreams and desires to be fulfilled. I like to think that they often line up with what I believe God’s will for my life is; but they don’t always. Today’s read was a challenging one… again!
Day 4’s unreached people group is the Afar people in Northern Djibouti, Eritrea, and Ethiopia. If you do not conform the the Afar’s way of society (ie:being a christian) they take you out to sea, tie a large stone to you, and dunk you. When you pass out, they raise you back up and ask if you are ready to conform. A denial will get you up to a third dunking. If you deny, and survive all three times, you are let go, but live as an outcast. That’s who I am praying for today. Join me?
