Live Dead: Day 10

Well it has been awhile since I blogged and did the live dead journal. But as I was reading my Bible and praying this morning 2 friends of mine came to mind. They are currently in Africa, making it possible for interns who want to become missionaries to go. They’re in countries where being a christian can get you arrested, or even killed. They’re living dead.

As I read today’s chapter entry in the live dead journal, an amazing quote from a woman missionary in Somalia jumped off the page into my brain.

“I feel what I can do is obey. I feel what I can do is trust God. I feel what I can do is walk with the Lord. We do all die. We have one life then to live, to give. One Life. How could I do anything but that to which I am called?”

Despite what some Eastern and New Age religions teach, this life is all you have.  What are you doing with it?  As I thought about this question, I couldn’t help but reflect on past failures, and events and pursuits that meant nothing in the scheme of eternity.  What a waste.  I want everything I do to make an impact on something.

When I go golfing, I want to use that time to build meaningful relationship with friends and discuss strategy for ministry, or tips for marriage or raising kids.  If I’m watching tv, or a movie, it better be recharging me during rest, instead of distracting me from important things.  I want to spend my time in ministry doing what God has called me to do.  How could I do anything but that to which I a called?

Today’s prayer, journal, and reading time had a pretty huge impact on me.  I’m excited to continue seeking whatever it is that God is going to show me through it, but I hope that today you would examine your life.  You only get one life, and to quote the recently deceased Pastor Glen Cole, “What on Earth are you doing for Heaven’s sake?”
