“This generation needs to learn to eat less, sleep less, and pray more.” -Leonard Ravenhill

Punched in the gut.  That is what it felt like when I read that quote.  I know there will times I complain because I only got 6 hours of sleep the night before.  Poor me, right?  There are people all over the world who would kill for 6 hours, and probably do…

Today’s reading was funny in it’s timing.  Before I left the house today I told Amanda I was going to start setting my alarm earlier so that I would be up earlier every morning.  Part of some of the practical advice given in today’s devotion was if you want to pray more, wake up earlier.  Well, I already decided that, and am already planned to start taking that advice.  It’s almost as if God had a plan or something crazy like that.

The call to be more was today’s title, and it made a lot of great points.  We cannot work for salvation, and God does not NEED anyone to accomplish His will, but He has called and chosen people to carry out His plans.  Laziness has crept in to society, and the next generation is cursed by it.  But God has called us in 2 Timothy 15 “Concentrate on doing your best for God, work you won’t be ashamed of, laying out the truth plain and simple (The Message).”  Working hard is good when it flows from the depth of our relationship with God.  Hard work for hard work’s sake is pointless.

I want to be more.  I want to pray more.  I want to know what the Word of God says more.  I want to give more.  I’ll be waking up earlier every morning so that I can start spending more time each day with God, and focusing in on what He wants me to be doing; so that the hard work I put in will be more efficient because God’s hand is guiding it.  I’m excited!
