Live Dead: Day 17

Normally when I sit down when I first get to the office I crack open Live Dead and read that, then I play some music and worship, then I’ll read through the plan I have for reading the Bible.  Today, I went Bible, Live Dead, blog.  The order change was interesting since today’s focus was on Scripture and reading the Bible.

Probably the biggest takeaway for me, and the best point made, was the question of whether when I read do I analyze what’s happening, ask questions about it, and study deeper; or do I let what I’m reading do that to me?  If the Bible is a sharp two-edged sword, do I let it perform surgery on me as I interact with it, or am I surgically dissecting it as I read.  One is working on my heart, the other is me working on my head…

It was a good reminder, because some days what I read travels from my brain, and stops.  Other times, the journey continues from my mind and makes its way down into my heart and those are the times when I am able to best connect with and hear from God.  Why wouldn’t I always be open to that?  If I am emptying myself of me, and wanting to be filled with more of God, that should happen much more regularly.  So today was a good reminder, and a solid challenge.  I am going to go back and read some more this morning, and subject myself to elective surgery 🙂
