More Than Life

It is easy to lose perspective in difficult situations when you look at the circumstances and not the one who is in control of them. “Uh oh” you say, “I know where this is going”. Ya, I’m about to get all spiritual on you. You’re welcome. There is a passage in the bible that says “weeping and sorrow may last for the night but joy comes in the morning time”. After a difficult night, this has never been so true for me.

I was holding Abigail, listening to “more than life” (Hillsong) thinking about how I love her more than life. When I got what can only be equated with a spiritual punch in the stomach. This is good, not like a literal punch in the stomach, (that just hurts), When there it was, that still small voice of God. Amazing how it can be so strong. I felt God say “Do you know how much I love you? You would give your life for her, I died for you. You stay by her side and hold her, you’re my daughter and I’m holding you. I have never left your side, I love you so much”.  Go ahead and take minute for that to set in, I did. The God who created everything is holding me, and loving me, and calls me his own. I am so overwhelmed and thankful for this perfect love. Without him I would not be here and without his mercy, Abigail would not be here either.

I am only human and there are times when I doubt, when I am afraid, when I want to give up. But in that moment I was invincible. I was full of joy. This may sound like ICU psychosis to some of you (more on this tomorrow) but to some of you I hope this is a reminder of a similar experience, of “how he loves”. Yes, expressing myself in song lyrics will be a reoccurring theme here.  “so I’ll stand with arms high and heart abandoned in awe of the one who gave it all, I’ll stand my soul lord to you surrender all I am is yours” see there it is again. It is easier to use someone else’s poetic and beautiful words than come up with my own.  These though are mine, “Jesus I love you more than life, thank you for allowing us to walk through this and reminding me that we are not walking it alone.”
