no sleep aloud

I have now been in the PICU for what seems like an eternity. Time seems to blur and there is no definitive end in sight. One of the worst things is by far the lack of sleep. It seems to me that when a person is sick they should get as much rest as possible. But hospitals seem to think the opposite and I have come to believe that they have specifically designed these places, the PICU in particular, to never allow you any shut-eye. It’s genius really no sleep=no getting better= great big medical bill. It’s good for business.

Here is how it works. the rooms are filled with things that go ding. Everything gos ding. ding ding ding ding ding. Incredibly loud, damage your hearing, ding.  Jack Bauer! Where were you when some guy engineered these things?!!  Surely this would be considered an act of terrorism. You let me down Bauer.

There is also the issue of light. the lights here are those awful, blaring, florescent monstrosities that shine brighter than the sun 24 hours a day.

And the nurses. God bless them they are just doing their job, but really? do you need to wake up my child every two hours all through the night? At least let her get some sleep.

And finally the bed. Oh wait its a chair, enough said. I’m writing this or rather venting this at 12:06 in the morning and this is a good night. morning. what day is it? I’m half asleep. or is it half awake. let me think. In the meantime my torture continues and the PICU’s method of choice remains sleep deprivation.
